It’s a bumper month of sport on UK TV this February!

A hugely important month of football fixtures coming up

The FA Cup

In season’s past, many would complain of the Premier League season almost being wrapped up by now, with the front runners leading the pack by a country mile. Not anymore! The gaps between the top teams and even down the divisions has lessened in recent years and this had made for some really exciting football upsets that seem to keep on coming.

The end of January and February promises to be a superb period of football all across the divisions with cup football returning to our screens. Some fixtures are unmissable viewing.

Capital One Cup Semi-Final 2nd Legs

With both matches looking to get wrapped up, our first cup final places of the season will be decided mid-week with two Merseyside clubs leading their respective ties.

On Tuesday evening, Stoke travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in a 7:45pm kick-off, carrying a solitary goal deficit whilst Everton travel to The Etihad Stadium the following evening to face Manchester City at 7:45pm, with the hosts needed to overturn the Toffee’s 2-1 lead.

Could we see an all Merseyside tie at the final in Wembley on Sunday, 28th February? You can find out by watching both games live on Sky Sports 1 HD.

The FA Cup returns this weekend

To wrap up the month of January nicely, the fourth round of the FA Cup gets underway later this week, with a Friday night kick off between hosts Derby County and visitors Manchester United, live from 7:30pm on BBC One.

With Louis van Gaal seemingly under increasing pressure, an early cup exit could leave the United board with a tough decision to make. With just a couple of days left in the transfer window, surely this is a must-win game for the Red Devils, who’s form has been indifferent all season long. Could an upset be on the cards? You’ll have to tune into BBC One this Friday using your VPN or Sling system to find out!

The next day also promises to potentially throw up a few upsets in the remaining FA Cup fixtures. Aston Villa host Man City is a game the home team need to win to kick start their dreadful season, Crystal Palace host Stoke in what could a pretty feisty affair, Liverpool host West Ham in what must be a tight match to predict and on the Sunday, MK Dons welcome Chelsea for a tie that could be the one to watch!

Tune into the BBC this weekend to catch all the action and see it infold.

The Premier league title race will take shape

Once the fun and games in the cup matches is all done and dusted, all eyes will be back on the Premier League and the top four title battle.

Leicester City have been this season’s breath of fresh air and whether or not you agree with their style of play, with their defensive counter-attacking approach to both home and away games, you have to admire that a team assembled on a fraction of the cost of the teams around them can only make them the neutrals favourites.

February will surely decide whether they have true title aspirations or whether they’ll fade away as many pundits predict. With all four teams playing one or two matches against each other over the coming weeks, important points will be gained and lost and come March, we could see who really are this season’s frontrunners.

The fixtures not to miss next month surely have to be Manchester City vs Leicester on Saturday, 6th February from 12:45pm on BT Sport 1. Then the following week, Arsenal host Leicester on Sunday, 14th February from 11:30, followed by Manchester City vs Tottenham from 4:00pm, both live on Sky Sports 1 HD – two massive games that will bring joy or heartbreak on Valentine’s Day.
