Sky adds 14 new entertainment channels to Sky Go

Comedy Central, MTV, Dave and Gold comes to Sky Go!

On-demand and live TV enthusiasts will be rejoicing since Sky announced on 19th November 2013, that 14 new entertainment channels have been added to Sky Go, taking their already impressive line-up of live UK TV streaming to a total of 57 channels.

The 14 new channels added to the service include Comedy Central, MTV, Dave, Watch, Gold, Discovery, National Geographic and History, giving an even wider range of entertainment to watch using a Mac or PC, plus mobiles and tablets via iOS and Android on the Sky Go app.

What is great news for Sky Go users is the additional channels come at no extra cost!

On demand is not the future – it’s now!

In recent weeks, Sky claimed that over three million requests were made to access television and movies via on demand between October 7 and October 13, with 219,000 users upgrading to their service in the last quarter of 2013.

Luke Bradley-Jones; who is Sky’s Brand Director of TV Products explains the decision:

“The addition of these new channels is part of our continued commitment to provide our customers with a great TV experience whenever and wherever they want it, all at no extra cost. Customers now have even more choice and flexibility whether they want to watch TV Box Sets, live Barclays Premier League football, the latest blockbusters from Sky Movies or awarding-winning drama from a wider range of entertainment channels.”

Competition is hotting up

At the beginning of 2013, Sky expanded the Sky Go service to enable up to four users to view on-demand television content for just £5 a month, with the bonus of exclusive added content including TV series and movie back catalogues.

With the recent addition of BT Sport making huge waves into the television arena, and their recent acquisition of exclusive UEFA Champions League coverage, having been previously the sole domain of Sky Sports viewers; Sky had to make some big changes to maintain their subscriber numbers and keep existing customers happy.

It’s also no surprise that with the shift in user trends towards on-demand content accompanied with the recent realisation of BT Sport taking a huge share of viewing figures, that Sky felt a real urgency to add value to their existing services as soon as possible.

So what’s new for Sky Go users?

Strictly Come Dancing into the festive period

Have you got your dancing shoes on?

Things are hotting up on the dance floor as more than 10 million Brits tuned in to see last weeks Strictly Come Dancing. Those are some impressive figures when you consider that is nearly 1 in 5 people watched the show in Britain alone.

Now into it’s eleventh series, the show just goes from strength to strength, beating it’s nearest ratings rival Downton Abbey on ITV into second only by a small margin, returning a notably jaw-dropping 9.6 million viewers this past week. With Christmas now just over a month away, both series will be heading towards their climactic finales. So which one will you be tuning into? We can guess both no doubt!

Tennis returns to London

We had another great summer of sport this past year with a 77 year long wait ended for Wimbledon tennis champion. London once again hosts the ATP Tour Finals at the O2 arena however, British tennis fans will be disappointed to see no Andy Murray at this years competition.

After playing for over 18 months with back trouble and plenty of pain, he recently underwent surgery and sadly had to take the difficult but necessary decision not to compete. We’re sure he’ll be back in action soon and wish him a speedy recovery.

However, that’s no reason not to tune into BBC2 from November 4th, as the tournament is being aired live all week!

With a massively strong field including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro; there’s bound to be some scintillating tennis on display for fans of the little yellow ball. So wherever you are, there’s no excuse for missing a single point!

Who will be the next pop idol?

Fans of the popular talent show The X-Factor will be seeing the final field starting to whittle down to the last select few as the grand final draws ever closer. As the third most watched show last week with 8.7 million viewers, which judge will unveil the next pop superstar?  Will Gary Barlow taste victory, or perhaps new girl Nicole Scherzinger? Our money is on the experienced shoulders of either Sharon Osbourne or Louis Walsh.

All we can say in stayed tuned to ITV1 and ITV2 to see how the competition unfolds.

The Premier League keeps on surprising!

Now just ten games into the new season, can anyone safely suggest who will or won’t be challenging for the title? In a season that still has many twists and turns to go, only Arsenal have showed any kind of form that displays possible title credentials. With Manchester United still struggling to find form, last season champions are still languishing outside the top six places with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Spurs and even Everton and high-flying Saints keeping them out of the top places.

Could the unthinkable happen with United not making the cut this year? It’s early days but the season is shaping up beautifully! All we can say is stayed tuned to Sky Sports for all the best in live Premier League football.
